My 8 year old is having delirious episodes. he has a long history of health problems so i guess we are taking him to a childrens hospital cause his pediatrician is no help. are we doing the right thing?

Yes, 2nd opinion: Always get a 2nd opinion, doc are only human and make overlook issues. Your child needs to see a neurologist and a psychiatrist. When they find nothing, you will still be left with caring you him. Start a wellness program and detox junk, sugar and toxin out of his system. If you have mental illness in the family this may be the kid version of that. Then adult meds in kid doses are required.

Yes: I'm not sure what you mean by delirious episodes but having your child further evaluated by a doctor at a children's hospital is a good start. Abnormal behavior could be caused by infection, ingestion of a substance, behavioral, or some other condition.
