A member asked:

What does the medical community make of the mthfr genetic mutation? i had a doctor tell me that they no longer look at it or feel it is a problem

A doctor has provided 1 answer

MTHFR: With screening tests, we always ask: will this info change our treatment or counseling of the patient? If you have 1 mthfr mutation, then from a medical perspective we'd consider this irrelevant because no different treatment would be given. Even if you have 2 mutations but your homocysteine levels are fine, no extra treatment is needed. A chat w/ genetics counselor would help to clarify more!
