Sort of...: Synvisc (hylan g-f 20) has a very thick consistency, so while it probably does not help with regeneration of the cartilage like we would like, it does help to lubricate the knee and distract the joint. I generally tell people it will not eliminate the need for a knee replacement, but it may delay it for up to several years.

For some people: Synvisc (hylan g-f 20) is quite expensive, but not as effective as i would like to see. It surely does not help everyone with arthritis. Its success depends on the person---if you have severe arthritis, it probably does not help much. In my limitted experience, i find that folks with moderate osteoarthritis with minimum joint/synovial inflammation benefit the most. Consult your doc. Good luck.

Minimally: Synvisc (hylan g-f 20) and other forms of ha, barely beat nsaids in controlled trials. Multiple injections at high cost. Minimally effective? Probably. Bettter than other options . No in my opinion. Arthritis of the knee can be better treated.
