Drain & pack: It sounds like it should have packed, not just drained, to prevent reaccumulation. You may have to go back and get it redrained and packed.

See how it goes: If you truly had an abscess, incision and drainage (plus antibiotics in some cases) may be all that is needed. However, it can heal over and recur, which is why some may need packing, or the cyst sac removed surgically. This is more than your family doc or derm may feel comfortable doing, so if there is any sign of recurrence, go see a plastic surgeon who can deal with this definitively.
