Several methods: First be certain that there is a consistent, quiet bedtime routine. Sometimes having a toy or blanket just for bedtime helps. Both valerian and melatonin can be used (i don't have the doses off the top of my head, but look on line).

Melatonin in kids: It is not uncommon to give a small dose of melatonin in the evenings to help with sleeplessness, especially with autistic children. The supplement positively affects circadian rhythms and helps regulate the sleep-wake cycle. Liquid is available making it easy to give. Talk to your pediatrician for dosing, but it is common to use 0.3-2mg in children.
