Melatonin: Melatonin carries some cardiovascular risk and some morbidity risk. Usually very safe but best do it under guidance of a sleep specialist the bigger question is why is she having insomnia?

Insomnia: Melatonin can be effective but you need to consult with your grandmother's doctor to make sure it does not interfere with any other medications she is taking. If cleared start with the lowest dose of one milligram. My best.
