All depends: Usual side effects such as sedation, constipation, altered mental status would be immediate or early on when starting the medications. Long term effects can lead to hormone imbalance, osteoporosis, liver and kidney disfunction. Of course abuse and addiction are always a risk but this varies from patient to patient. Many who take daily will become dependent on the medication as well.
