Total deafness: The major indication in both adults and children is bilateral profound hearing loss that can not be helped with a hearing aid. It is true that there are potential complications if you are a candidate for such an implant, discuss everything with an otologic surgeon who has extensive experience with this surgery. Total unilateral deafness is still a controversial indication.
