Rh disease : Rh disease is a rare blood reaction that occurs when the mother's body develops immune factors that fight the baby's blood. It occurs when the mother is sensitized during a previous pregnancy.

Rare today: The Rh factor is simply an extra protein site on red cells that Rh negative people don't have. Rh negative blood can be given to Rh positive people (with the same blood type) but not the other way around. If it occurs an immune reaction called sensitization occurs and could produce massive blood breakdown. In the early 70's they developed meds to stop sensitization. Now it rarely occurs.
