Is it normal for new orthotics to hurt?

Not uncommon: Your doctor should of spoken to you about breaking them in. I normally recommend an hour the first day and doubling the allotted time each successive day. If pain persists you may need them adjusted.

Yes: It takes time to properly "break in" your body to the orthotic. You typically want to wear the orthotic a short period of time each day, while gradually increasing the amount of time and activity.

BREAK IN.....: slowly, working up to a full day. They should be comfortable after the break-in period. If not, see your doctor.

Go figure.: Sometimes they don't hurt at all. There are some patients that require a breaking in period. This typically has the patient wearing the devices for limited periods of time and slowly progresses until the orthotics are comfortable. Having said that, there are some people that never become comfortable with orthotics.
