6-12 weeks is normal: A double knee replacement is quite taxing on your body. Some people can go back in 4-6 weeks to a sedentary job. Most people can return in 6-12 weeks but they will be stiff and sore and need to move around a lot and often still feel achy and restless at 6 weeks. Most people are taking pain medication for 3-12 weeks after surgery. As you see this varies greatly from patient to patient.

2 months on average: Depending on the post-operative course and the presence or the abcense of complications it might take up to 2 months to recover enough to go back to work. And don't forget the hard work and maximum effort you expected to show participating in physical therapy and rehab process! good luck.

6-8 weeks : The first 1-2 weeks after a bilateral (double) knee replacement is the hard part. By 2 weeks, patients should be quite independent, getting ready to advance from a walker to a cane, and having very manageable pain. 3-4 more weeks of physical therapy should allow that patient to begin an office job, with 1-2 more weeks necessary to begin a more physically demanding job.
