Exercise regularly: The athletic heart is known for being efficient: pumps more blood per beat, and beats 50-60 times per minute at rest, sometimes even slower. Regular cardiovascular aerobic conditioning (running, cross-country skiing, cycling, swimming, rowing) can cause these adaptations. A slow heart rate is most common among runners, and is cardioprotective.
