A member asked:

My resting heart rate has decreased from +- 55 last week to +-48 this week with no extra training from my side. i am competing in a half ironman competition this weekend and am not sure if i should go for an ecg.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Bradycardia: If this significant drop in resting heart rate is unexplainable by medication or underactive thyroid, for example,, a 12 lead EKG is indicated to determine whether this is simple sinus bradycardia seen in athletes. You also may want to consider having a maximal treadmill stress test before this grueling race. Discuss this with your physician.
