Many possibilities: Reflexes vary from person to person, but also from exam to exam. Repeated testing during a visit can vary for several reasons (position of the leg, how relaxed you are, where the stimulating "tap" is given, etc.). Later in life reflexes may diminish or disappear. Some nerve disorders reduce or eliminate them.
