No: Surprisingly, it can be good for your teeth. Digestion of carbohydrates by bacteria in dental plaque liberates acids which are responsible for tooth decay. The increased salivary flow while chewing sugarless gum can help wash away those acids. Saliva also contains minerals (calcium, phosphates) to help strengthen enamel. Too much of a good thing may be detrimental to the chewing muscles though.

Bad?: Chewing sugarless gum such as trident is actually good for your teeth. It helps to increase the flow of saliva which can protect your teeth by buffering plaque acids. It can also help clean the chewing surface of your teeth. The only drawback may be a sore jaw muscles. It would be a good idea to make sure that any gum you chew is not only sugarless but contains xylitol which helps prevent cavities.
