How long should one wait to exercise their abdominal muscles after getting their appendix removed?

4-6 weeks: Laparoscopic surgery has drastically reduced healing time because of such tiny incisions now compared to open surgeries. If you had this done laparoscopically, you are likely told by your surgeon to take it easy--no heavy lifting for 4-6 wks, and then you can pretty much do all you want. U are only 24, so 4-6 wks is a short time. Don't rush it. Let it heal completely. Consult doc. Good luck.

Ask your surgeon: I know that you want a shorter amount of time than the surgeon gave you, but sorry, it's not coming from here. The only person who can tell you that is the person who has been on the inside, your surgeon. The time has to do with the size of the incision, so recovery is quicker with laparoscopic, or minimally invasive, surgery. Most people are back within 2-3 weeks.
