Is it common for the pancreas to stop working after chronic pancreatus? what can you do to get it going again?

See below: Your pancreas can get "burnt" out with chronic pancreatitis. Other conditions can do it too. It won't make enough pancreatic enzymes. You can't get it going again, yet. Your gastroenterologist, may prescribe supplemental pancreatic enzymes (e.g. Pancrease) to take with every meal and snack to compensate. Other conditions can also lead to diabetes in which you don't make insulin.

Insufficiency: Chronic pancreatitis may be due to many causes (usually chronic alcoholism) which eventually causes enough damage to the organ so that it stops working (pancreatic insufficiency) . The pancreas makes Insulin for blood sugar control and digestive ezymes for digestion. You may need supplements of both. Once damaged, the pancreas is unlikely ever to 'get going again' --sorry.
