Can reduce some: pancreatitis can be chronic and due to many different causes. The pancreases (pancrelipase) produces enzymes to help you digest your food. If they is not enough you have abdominal pain and bowel problems. As you heal you start to produce some but in some cases not enough. Each person is different and some need the supplement for a few months and others the rest of their life depending on symptoms. Followup

NORMAL?: Chronic pancreatitis by definition is not normal and there has been damage to the pancreas many times in the past leading to a chronic condition. Cells and tissue that once made hormones and enzymes are dead . If you need supplements now, you will always need supplements unless you have a pancreatic transplant. Since the problem is idiopathic there isn't a known underlying cause or fix.
