Insoles will cushion: A bit, but most heel pain doesn't respond to cushioning. Suspect plantar fasciitis and t his needs support, not cushioning. See your friendly neighborhood podiatrist for an evaluation and treatment.

Replacement insoles: Take the insoles out of your shoes and replace them with ones that have more arch support. I like spenco products. The one i recommend most is the spenco polysorb cross-trainer insole. If you don't need as much cushioning, the total support insole is about as close to a prescription orthotic as an over-the-counter device can give you.
