Does alcohol rule U?: Alcoholism means that drinking alcohol is interfering with your life in some way. If this is the case or others think you need help, go talk to an addictions counselor or go to a 12 step meeting. Also see a medical doctor to see if drinking is hurting your health. If you drink instead of working, spending time with your family, or going to school, alcohol is probably a problem for you.

It Depends: Most people with alcohol dependency are unable to drink socially and in moderation. Some are, most are not. Also, a lot of folks with this problem will say they are a recovering alcoholic, even though they haven't drank in years. Finally, alcohol abuse is not necessarily the same as alcohol dependence. If drinking interferes with your life in any way, you probably should not drink at all.
