Maybe: Usually this only happens if you have an allergic reaction to the ring like anywhere else in the body. This happens less with the more pure the ring is. For example silver or gold. The cheaper rings are made up of a mixture of metals and are more likely to cause itching, rash or swelling.

Not necessarily: Tongue rings do not usually cause the symptoms of throat itching. They do pose other serious risks, however. The foreign body can become dislodged and obstruct the back of the throat, or even enter the lung.

Ring: It certainly may be a factor.Tongue rings can breed bacteria. Some patients also may be allergic to various metals/paints on the ring. Chipped teeth from rings are common. Risk of ingesting or getting it in a airway/lung can be life threatening and involve surgery. Have i convinced you to get rid of it yet. To answer your question- yes possibly !
