A member asked:

Will an x-ray tell me what is the cause of my wrist pain?

It may: If there is a bone problem; a soft tissue problem is best seen on mri. The best exam is a physical exam and confirmed only by MRI or x ray.

No: The most effective tool we have in diagnosing wrist conditions is the physical examination. An xray can be beneficial but is not always required.

MRI better: A wist MRI may show 'torn ligaments' if an xray is normal.
