That depends on how: Your anxiety & noise are connected. Anxiety has two main elements -- cognitive (perceptions, thoughts, beliefs) and physiological. Change your cognitions about the noise with counseling and reduce your physiological response with relaxation training. A predictable & controllable stressor is less stressful. A startle response to sudden loud noises is normal and very difficult to eliminate.

Great input by Dr. : Stewart. Have you had any life-threatening or horrific events in your life? The reason that i ask is that increased startle response ; reactivity can be associated with past trauma (; more specifically ptsd). Psychiatric evaluation may help to clarify this which may in turn lead to ideas to v this symptom.
