Very Similar: A lot can be done with both types of braces today! metal braces are the old traditional type... Most people find them to be somewhat painful. Invisalign braces are a much more comfortable alternative for most people and today they can work for most cases as they have improved so much in recent years. Teeth must be free of decay and any extractions done prior to starting orthodontic treatment.

Invisalign: The answers is yes! the difference is that invisalign is more depended on the patient's ability to follow instructions and used the appliance consistently. With regular braces, you are all wired up and the doctor has more control over the teeth movement. Invisalign can take longer and cost more depending on the quality of patient's cooperation with the treatment.

Not really: Published research has shown, despite advertising claims, that clear aligners are only about half as effective as fixed appliances (braces), and take as long if not longer. The research was conducted by university trained orthodontists. Note that specialists have more training and experience than generalists.

Find out: If your dentist referred your son for an orthodontic evaluation your dentist must feel there is a "bite" problem. See an orthodontist for an initial examination. The orthodontist will show what's wrong, tell you what can be done to fix it, and inform you of the consequences of failure to resolve your son's malocclusion. You can then decide what to do with all of the facts at your disposal.

Just enough: All orthodontists take only the minimum amount of x-rays necessary to give a clear picture of the problem. We can't work blind. We must be able to see what is going on inside, and for that we need x-rays. Discuss your concerns with your orthodontist, but know that the amount of radiation is minimal.

Yes: essentially they do the same thing, but work in different ways. not everyone is a candidate for invisalign and they tend to cost more, but if you don't want metal in the mouth, it may be a great option.
