It can help rule out: Gastroparesis is largely a functional issue. Symptoms include nausea and vomiting and bloating. All are fairly nonspecific symptoms with many conditions causing a similar findings. An egd can rule out several of those various diagnosis. It will largely be a diagnosis of exclusion. Functional tests can help more accurately diagnose the condition sigh as gastric emptying tests.
