Happens off and on: Many people have had muscle spasms in their colons. It's the painful crampy feeling during strong bowel movements with diarrhea, use of laxatives during constipation, or cramps during irritable bowel syndrome. The muscles in the colon are supposed to move gently and rhythmically, to move the stool through at a normal pace. When spasms occur, there will be crampy pains.
