Skin discoloration: Purple blotches on the skin arise from capillaries (small blood vessels) in the skin. They may be more noticeable under certain conditions (temp, exercise, alcohol). Depending on the type/degree of involvement lasers may be helpful in reducing their appearance. If they are associated with other symptoms or change in their appearance, it would be advisable to have an exam. Hope this helps!

Possibility: One of the possibilities that comes to mind is livedo reticularis. Livedo reticularis can be normal or may be related to more severe underlying pathology. Possible causes include possible blood diseases, autoimmune diseases, cardiovascular diseases, cancers, and endocrine disorders. It can usually (80% of the time) be diagnosed by biopsy. I would see a dermatologist.
