I have a raised purple spot on my leg which has been there for quite some time now. around it are rash-like marks and it all itches. any clues?

Exam needed: If the discolored lesion is only days old, it could have been an insect bite with some leakage of blood under the skin. The associated itching makes this more likely but the lesion would clear after 10 days or so. Cortisone type ointment would relieve the itch. If this lesion has been present for weeks it's best to have it examined by your physician or dermatologist.
