Hernia or Diastasis?: A hernia is an actual hole in the abdominal wall thru which abdominal organs can protrude. Diastasis rectii is the separation of the rectus muscles common after pregnancy; since the fascia is intact, there is no risk of organs protruding. General surgeons fix hernias; plastic surgeons fix diastasis (abdominoplasty, or "tummy tuck"). Of course, you can be (un)lucky & have both!

Probably: Usually after pregnancy, women get a spreading of the abdominal muscles rather than a true hernia. In that case, the spread of the muscles (called rectus diastasis) would be repaired at the time of a tummy tuck. If there is a true hernia, this can also be repaired at the time of a tummy tuck but may require additional surgeons be involved. This is not a way to get insurance to pay for a tuck.

Usually not: Some may do. Not all of the plastic surgeons are well trained to repair hernias. The is the job of general surgeons.
