A member asked:

What does it mean to have a benign breast papilloma with hyperplasia?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Depends on location.: Papillomas are benign polyp-like growths found within breast ducts. When near the nipple, they can cause bloody nipple discharge. In the absence of 'atypia', excision is unnecessary unless they are in the periphery of the breast (away from the nipple)--in that circumstance, cancers are sometimes associated with this finding, warranting surgical biopsy.
