Depends on the virus: If by viral infection, you're referring to a cold or gastroenteritis, then you may not need a doctor at all, since these are not treatable conditions. But if you do go to a doctor, an internist or family practitioner is fine. But if you're talking about something like HIV or hepatitis c, then you'd want to see someone with expertise in treating those conditions.
