Yes you can: It is not the first choice of medicine to treat an ear infection, but it is relatively slosely related to Amoxicillin and so should work fine for middle ear infection. Outer ear infection--aka swimmer's ear will not respond to cephalexin. If not better in 3-5 days after starting med, consult doc for an eval. Good luck.

Cephalexin: Based on your age, you can if prescribed by your doctor. But before you even think of being treated or start getting anitibiotic, hear this: it is now customary to wait for about 72 hours (because symptoms can disappear) before contemplating on using as antibiotic because most ear infections heal themselves. Using pain killers orally or by ear drops is indicated first.

Use as prescribed: If you were seen by your doc, and it was prescribed to you, certainly, use as it was instructed to you.

No: The spectrum of organisms that will be killed by this antibiotic is not sufficient for the usual bacteria that cause an ear infection.
