Pleuritic pain: Sharp left sided chest pain typically relates to pain that is affected by chest wall or cardiac movement. This is seen in the setting of inspiration, as well as certain body position where inflamed membranes surrounding the heart (pericardium) and lungs (pleura) are affected. The lung itself can be a cause of such pain as can the local rib cage. Consider pericarditis, pleurisy.
