Nerve: This appears to have been a pinched intercostal nerve or muscle that runs between two ribs. The popping feeling could have been from the ligament that holds the rib joint onto the sternum(breastbone). The sharp pain would be aggravated by a deep breath or cough. This situation should resolve in a few days, but see your md as needed.

Rib movement : Just a rib that moved. If pain persists, see an inexpensive chiropractor for one visit only.
