Over-inflation: When air can get into the lungs but cannot get out very well, it can cause the lungs to be over-inflated. This can become a long-lasting problem. Usually this type of problem comes when the breathing tubes ("airways") are small or obstructed. Asthma, copd, and cystic fibrosis are common problems to cause this. In people who smoke, this problem of over-inflation is usually called emphysema.
