A member asked:

My 9 month old still had fluid in her ear from an infection 2 months ago. what should we do?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Monitor: The presence of clear fluid behind an ear drum is of no particular consequence in a 9mo. Fluid will often persist for 6wks after an infection has been treated, but will sometimes come & go without significant pbs. Researchers in galveston found many infants had fluid persist up to 3 months in the first yr without developing problems. Periodic re checks with your pcp should be fine if no sx arise.
