Yes.: I love this drug for adult female acne patients. Since it is not an antibiotic or a birth control it is safe and effective for long term use. The only warning i give my patients is do not get pregnant while you are taking it. Stop it one month prior to trying to conceive and you are fine. This is typical, though, with most oral medications.

Mostly: You should avoid becoming pregnant while on spironolactone because it can affect the development of a male fetus. Effects on potassium have also been discussed as a side effect, but recent evidence suggests that this is so incredibly uncommon that blood tests for it should not routinely be done. Other side effects include abnormal periods, breast tenderness, headaches. These are all reversible.
