As you can see there are lots of studies on meditation, and they show that meditation is helpful across the board. There are few better things you can do. There are no risks or adverse effects. Good luck.

Meditation Starter: If someone wants to start meditating it can be helpful to talk to others who are also doing it - if there is a buddhist temple near you that could help. Sometimes reading a book - I like "Wherever You Go, There You Are" can help. There are also apps like "insight timer" you can get to help you. There are numerous you tube videos on the subject also. Good luck.
