Can be: Having stones may not be a problem-if they stay put (may be associated with increased risk for gallbladder cancer). Passing stones can be a serious problem- aside from pain, can get stuck, cause blockage, infection, and/or inflammation of the pancreas. These can be serious, even fatal problems. Good idea to remove gallbladder if symptomatic stones, or other uncommon conditions.
