Gallstones often are: Asymptomatic for years. Only when their number or size reaches a point to cause blockage of the bile duct is one likely to experience symptoms. Limiting fats in the diet can help prevent symptoms.

Not always a problem: Gallstones can cause a variety of symptoms. Many people have them and don't know it. So yes, you can have them and never experience problems. That being said, I have also seen patients that have their gallbladder removed for one complaint, but also get relief from a variety of other complaints.
