Whiplash: Accidents can sometimes result in stretching of a nerve that if irritated will causes headaches especially in the back of the head (occiput). Shearing/inflammation of the small joints of the cervical spine can occur after whiplash injury. Thankfully via facet joint related treatments this pain can be managed. Discuss with an interventional spine or pain specialist who performs rfa treatment.

No specific time: If headache is caused by whiplash, nerves may be stretched, but also soft tissues of neck & upper back may be twisted, stretched or pinched, too.Vertebrae may be 'out of whack' and upper ribs may be mildly displaced;tiny muscles around vertebrae & base of skull may be in spasm;skull bones may be mashed together. All can cause headache.Osteopathic hands-on exam & treatment may shorten pain duration.
