Hygiene: Braces tend to accumulate more plaque and bacteria than your teeth alone, so you hygiene needs to be better than ever.

Gingivitis: Gingivitis is inflammation of the gums. Healthy gums don't bleed. When you have braces it is difficult to keep your gums really healthy so some bleeding is expected and normal but you should discuss this with your orthodontist. Brushing protects against cavities and flossing prevents gingivitis. You can't leave out flossing, especially with braces.

Gingivitis: The accumulation of food debris and plaque bacteria around your braces are causing gum tissue inflammation or gingivitis. This bleeding gum tissue requires special added attention to detail and time for better oral hygiene on your part.
