Teeth Cleaning: It depends where you live. In colorado you can have your teeth cleaned without seeing a dentist. However a hygienist cannot legally diagnose cavities so you run that risk.

No...not really.: A dental cleaning, like any other medical/dental procedure, must be prescribed by a healthcare professional who is licensed to prescribe and offer such treatment. Like any other medical/dental procedure, it must be based on an examination and a diagnosis. Therefore, you must see a dentist prior to having a dental cleaning prescribed and performed, especially if you are not a patient of record.
