I'm not sure that what you're palpating is a lump within the parotid gland. It could be a tender preauricular lymph node. To be sure, you'd have to be examined by your physician or an ENT specialist.

If primary care or ENT have no findings, consider going back to your dentist who may refer you to an Oral Surgeon. You may have a small sialolith (a salivary stone) blocking your parotid duct. If close to the surface, treatment can be simple. Stay well hydrated & use sugar-free lemon drops to try to increase salivation. Take care!
