Meet your Doc: Usually the first visit is used to gather information that is needed to provide prenatal care. Dates are confirmed to schedule timed genetic tests that are available. Ultrasound is performed if needed or scheduled at 12-14 wks to check nuchal thickness. Rarely is a pelvic exam done on first visit unless you have symptoms of infection or miscarriage. Overall, it's a good time to assess each other.
