If bacterial: Bronchitis is typically caused by a viral infection. If the infection is bacterial, and being treated as an outpatient, then amoxicillin or azithromycin are acceptable. Amoxicillin is not used to cover atypical bacterial causes eg. Mycoplasma infections.
