Does anyone know what lung adhesions are / what they are caused by?

Illness or nature: Many things cause adhesions, which are basically scar tissue. They can be caused by injury, surgery or infection. They can also just occur naturally. The real question is whether the adhesions are in any way restrictive, affecting respiratory status.
