Work with urologist: A cystoscopy is usually performed in the office. Local numbing gel should be placed in the urethra. Discomfort occurs when the scope passes across the urinary sphincter, and if the bladder overfills with the irrigation. Communicate with your urologist, making sure to let them know if you are having pain. Try to relax, maybe bring headphones and listen to music. Many do tolerate this well.
