An office procedure.: Cystoscopy is a procedure where a small cystoscope, about the width of a pencil, is placed into the bladder through the urethra. It is used by doctors to visualize the lining of the bladder, looking for anatomic abnormalities, stones, inflammation, and tumors. If performed in the clinic, no general anesthesia is used, only a local numbing gel.
