Lower urinary tract.: When a urologist uses a cystoscope, the inside of the bladder and urethra are inspected. Irregularities in the urinary tract lining, tumors, stones, inflammation, muscular thickening, & outpouchings called cellules & diverticula are seen. The ureteral orificies, or the outflow from the kidneys, are visible. In males, the inside of the prostate, and nodular enlargement can be seen.

Why might my urologist not want to see me as a patient unless I get a cystoscopy?

Yes: Cystoscopy is critical to evaluating people with blood in their urine, inability to urinate or trauma to the urethra or bladder. It is important to evaluate any other urologic condition associated with difficulties urinating; this includes incontinence, diminished force of stream, painful urination. Your urologist is trying to make as complete and accurate a diagnosis as possible.
A 31-year-old member asked:

What are the risk factor for cystoscopy?

Dr. Paul Cohen

Minimal?: There are always risks with any procedure(perforation, post procedure infection, post procedure cramping) but with a trained ob/gyn these should be kept to the barest minimal. Best to discuss this with your doctor so as to be well aware of what is going to occur; forewarned is forearmed.

Nothing serious: Prepped means introducing your data in hospital system, measuring vital signs, get everything ready. Does not mean you have to get other procedures.
